Still Sitting Still

Finding ourselves in Currie this morning we continued to Balerno to visit Malleny Gardens, known for its collection of shrub roses in informal settings and a 400-year-old yew hedge. The house itself was built in 1647 with a doocot and mounting block, each worthy of a blip in its own right.

Near to a fountain is a wrought iron gate decorated with leaves and two birds, reputed to be kingfishers, which look rather similar to those on the gate in Colinton designed by Phoebe Anna Traquair. I wonder whether she was the inspiration - or designer - behind them.
