Spitting Fire

Work for a meeting at 8.30... Which was cancelled. Ah well, missed the worst of the rain, and then saw fire spitting from the chimney on the site of the Scottish Brewers brewery. There had been debate on an internet forum I frequent about whether it would be explodified Fred Dibnah-esquely, but instead it was taken down in stages, the first requiring cut free and lifted off. And given the shot was taken on a gloomy morning, from a distance, through the window and blinds at work...

Probably says a lot about me that the post-apocalyptic stylee shot wins out over a rather sunny and sweet stretching juvenile Coot later in the evening.

But this shot also matched my mood at the end of the day - I'm probably looking at things through nettle-tinted glasses, applying my previous-job-boss experiences subconsciously, but there seemed to be a rather snippy email just after 5 which was sort-of blaming me for something. Blitzed the ride home as stress-relief.

Oh, and meant I wasn't much in the mood for French.

Also found out today that throwing a foam pie in the face of a frankly creepy media mogul is a worse crime than driving over a cyclist. Jonathan May-Bowles is a muppet, not a particularly likeable character, but 6 weeks in prison for some foam in the face of Rupert Murdoch? I tweeted about it and a councillor from down south replied saying that it's the 'premeditation' that's the important thing, whereas drivers don't set out to kill. This is true, but... 'Avoidable' negligence which kills is surely more serious than deliberate foam pie throwing???

Mind you, our own councillors haven't done much better. Can't be bothered with details, but today various 20mph zone proposals were rejected, mainly for reasons that don't actually bear up to close scrutiny in the slightest (given by the police and Lothian Buses). Might give that scrutiny tomorrow. Trust me, the arguments are completely flakey unless, like our Council, you take them at face value. And this is the Council which is allegedly waging a war on the motorist if you believe the commenters on the Evening News website.

Progressive, conscious of the safety of the citizens of the country, none of this applies to Edinburgh's Councillors (save one) today.
