Goodbyeeeeeeeee Mr Poplar

Many years ago a botanist gave John's mum a cutting of a balsam poplar. She gave us a cutting from it and it grew in our garden in Peterculter. Our cat, Jed, was buried under it.

When we moved south we took some cuttings and strategically planted one in the front garden so that it would block out the view to a neighbour's house. For many years the leaves had black blotches from some disease or other, but for the past few years it has been very healthy. The only problem was that it has sent out huge lateral roots to far corners of the garden and the resident pruner has had it in his mind to get rid of it.

Today, was the day for this to happen. Cuttings were taken and now only the lower trunk remains - but it will go tomorrow.

It's always sad when a tree goes.

I was astonished that yesterday's blip reached the spotlight. Thank you!
