Sunset at the cathedral
Christ the Saviour Cathedral, Russia's largest church: commissioned by Tsar Alexander I to celebrate the defeat of Napoleon (by the Russian winter, more than its army...). It was demolished by Stalin and turned into a giant outdoor swimming pool, until Moscow's now-disgraced former major, Luzhkov, rebuilt it exactly as before. I'm dubious how much of his motivation was to restore a house of worship: a monument to his tenure as much as to God.
Still, it is glorious.
