All his own work

Over at my cousin's house this evening for a barbeque (in the rain - luckily she had her gazebo up!)

I had offered to make a dessert but wasn't able to get any ingredients for the strawberry mousse I wanted to make because I was stuck at home car-less yesterday (the car story is still grumbling on today but I am fed up talking about now - let's just say the car is running but I am going to see if the VW garage will look at it next week just to confirm/rule out - hopefully the latter - any engine problems, as the car is still under warranty) and the local shop had nothing I required except for strawberry jelly. So I needed something easy to make, something I could pick up the ingredients for today and assemble quickly at my cousin's. I remembered this pudding - a nectarine and blueberry galette - which I had made last year. It was from Nigella's Express book and is just the simplest thing ever to produce. Got the ingredients, arrived at cousins and set to work. To my amazement, J actually wanted to help - this was very unusual for him. Normally he has no interest in food whatsoever. So once the base was prepared he had free rein with the fruit - laying the nectarine slices out first and filling in any gaps with bluberries. This is what he made then. Unsurprisingly though, he didn't want any of it once it had been cooked so he had no idea how delicious it was!
