COUP D' ETAT

This is a picture of a homemade boat hand carved from a tree trunk.
According to work mates there are not as many as there used to be due to the Coup D' Etat attempt on the life of the current president Teodor Obiang Nguema Mbasogo.
A British backed raid in 2004 nicknamed the Wonga Coup included such luminaries as Sir Mark Thatcher who invested $250,000 and was lead by ex SAS officer Simon Mann planned to use commercial fishing operations as a front to land mercenaries on the island.
The Coup failed and Mann who was originally captured in Zimbabwe was extradited and sentenced to 34 years in prison in the Black Beach prison notorious for its bad conditions, he was later pardoned and released in 2009 in the so called "Oil for Mann" deal between Zimbabwe and Equatorial Guinea which was once quoted as the "New Kuwait" due to it's vast Oil and Gas reserves.
The rumour is that Mann is currently working as a security advisor for the same president.

Unfortunatly due to the Coup D' Etat attempt a clamp down on the locals small fishing boats was undertaken and it has taken years for them to start to re- surface.
