Rescue mission
As a small organisation, this is one of our strengths: reacting to need.
This is a new area for us, in Kazando, and after feeding many villages through the hungry season, we are now about to begin a farming process to ensure food security going forward.
On a day, in March, when I was making plans with the community for drainage and irrigation (yes, the land we will use is TOO WET), Mary and the DIT students were meeting the rest of the community. They found two physically and mentally challenged siblings being carried and cared for by their 15 year old brother. The response from Chris was to strip off his expensive t shirt and give it to him for his kindness.
Mary took the names and left them for Jimmy, of the St John of God Child Development centre, who was away on a course.
Of course she deputised Harisen.
Today Jimmy and Thandi, visited the home and it will be good news from now on, as I expect both children will attend the Special School, collected and returned by bus each day. It is a wonderful school and service, and from one aspect these two children will be privelidged.
Harisen writes:
John,
We went to Kazando with Jimmy and Thandi on home visit program to see Yafika Zimba. (The picture shows Jimmy talking to the family)
I gave the details of the area to Jimmy yesterday and he couldn't make it, so we decided to go together today.
Regards
Harisen.
You might notice Harisen's aproach to no shows!!!
