Zambia Day#4

Another tiring but fun day here in Zambia.

An early start as we were in the 'famous' Pick & Pay supermarket as it opened at 0800. Must say I am V. impressed with the politeness and service over here generally, but in the supermarket........Mr Tesco come and learn!!

Then on to visit two wonderful people who have moved out to a farm to start a new way of life and have been helped in that move by Hannah, physically, and by others at churches in the UK in many ways including financially. Once again an inspiration to us all. They rent a temporary home in a small township off the main road, and then walk two kilometres each way to the farm where they have started to clear and plant as well as prepare the ground and make bricks to make their new home. They have to have the house complete for the start of the rainy season in November. Hannah brought some money for them which has been given by people in the UK and one of the items they are going to purchase is a brick mold. So far all the bricks have been made entirely by hand! Another item on the shopping list is a wheelbarrow!

We walked with them round the perimeter of their 11 hectares and in doing so past these houses belonging to the local chief.

Then on to Nsobe Game Camp where we tried unsuccessfully to spot  giraffe and zebra, but had a canoe and swim in the lake which was good..........and nicely cooling.

Then out to friends house this evening for a meal of Nshima - local maize based meal served in 'lumps', their word not mine - Kapenta a small dried fish not unlike whitebait in appearance but not in taste! - and fried caterpillars! Enjoyed the Nshima, had five caterpillar and quite enjoyed, but left most of the fish which surprised me.

Off to bed. Goodnight.
