Excavation

We didn't expect to have to do this work outside, as well as all the work inside the new house. We tried to forget that the original surveyors report had suggested lowering the soil by around 7-9 inches along the back of the building, but thoughts of flooding and our new flooring prompted us to do something about it. So, thanks to Dougie and Peter's incredibly hard labour, a mini digger, a skip and various other bits of equipment, this has happened since last week. No bones or treasure found but two massive sand stone blocks, used to hold up old washing line poles, some shrubbery roots, old lead piping and two earth worms (carefully placed in the vegetable patch to take the total found in the garden to only four!). They also uncovered two ventilation grills on the side of the house which had been totally covered in mud which the surveyor no doubt anticipated. The grass needs a small retaining wall, we now need steps up to the back door and to the garden itself, and we have to buy loads of sand, concrete and slabs. Help!
