Anne's Daily Encounters

By dutchdelight

all under control and clear cut

After weeks of reconstruction works on the road today roaring engines and a team of operators arrived to plaster the road next door. All happened with a lot of focus and concentration on plastering without a fault and to straighten out the line between the black and red asphalt, black for cars and buses and the lot and red for the cyclists. The roaring engines made quite an impression. I'd walked into this scene as I had to leave for the last service to my aunt and seeing the focuss of the men here on the one line surprised me - ok they need to keep a close watch on drawing that line straight, but it also was as if they were focussed on drawing the line between life and death.

My one dutch aunt had suffered from cancer for some 8 years and since the start of this year her life's qualitiy changed dramatically as the cancer took to her bones and took away her physical strength and brought more nasty pains. The arrival of a new doctor made her question him immediately on the issue of euthanasia and this doctor assured her he'd not be troubled to help her if she'd wish to die with a little help. Ever since their discussion and planning my aunt managed to relax a little, sleep a little and find peace again. She had her life again in control and that's what she was so totally used to.

My uncle and their children and grandchildren mourn now like we all do, but we are also relieved as auntie's managed to control her death as she'd wanted and has no more suffering ahead of her!
