A bit of a wander

Last day of the Pride without Prejudice exhibition today and this afternoon I was invigilating with my chum Alex: artist, musician and mum to the lovely Aidan. Aidan is about 12 and an absolute delight to have around. Toward the end of the afternoon he asked me if I wanted to go up into the belfry of St Margaret's, the old church where the exhibition was being held. 'You bet!' was my quick response so off we trotted, up a couple of flights of very steep, very dark, very narrow and exremely cobwebby stone stairs.

We couldn't actually get right up into the belfry as the only way up that last bit was via some wooden stairs which looked less than safe. You know where you are with stone.

Naturally, I took my camera up with me. This is a view of part of the way down.

Once we were back on the ground floor we both looked at each other and said: 'We shouldn't really have gone up there, should we?' To which Aidan replied, seriously: 'No, but we were very sensible, the flashlight on your phone was very useful and it was a good opportunity to take some photos in the kind of space you don't normally get the chance to be in'. He'll go far, that lad.
