The Owl House, Nieu Bethesda

Once the home of Helen Martins, who it would be hard to say was entirely sane, the Owl House is a fantastic modern museum of art made in concrete and glass.

Nieu Bethesda is hidden deep in the valleys of the Klein Karoo (see previous posting) and home to a small, but thriving art community.

This scene is clearly deeply religious, while others feature the nativity and at the other end of the scale, a quiet glass of beer. All in the aforementioned materials.

We'll be back in Rooi Els on Tuesday - I'll post some more pics of this extraordinary place on my Flickr account then.
