Kite Boarding
I love watching whatever this sport is called. I'm almost positive its called kiteboarding but with new board related activities popping up all the time I could be wrong.
Sea kayaking, SUP (stand up paddling - possibly) surfing and wind surfing are all popular here on our coastline and I saw a great sight last week in Porthcawl when a large group of children were on the beach for what looked like life guards training. At a time when all young people were being wrongly demonised for criminal acts, it showed that some are preparing to be the heroes and heroines of the future, protecting us from the power of nature and sometimes our own stupidity.
We live on an island but the respect for the coast seems to be eroding along with the funding for our coastguards.
If you doubt the power of the sea, stand in the shallows and wait for a big, powerful wave to hit you, throwing you down like a rag doll and spitting you out at its convenience. A tiny taste of the awesome force of energy that surrounds us.
