Entry 395 - Oxfam Legends 1
This is Hazel, 75, she works at Oxfam on a Sunday afternoon from half past 1. She has only been volunteering for Oxfam for 4 months, and really enjoys it! Without Hazel, Sundays would be a struggle for Skipton Oxfam, as we have very little staff on a weekend.
She was talking to me today about the war. Hazel was a very young child in the war, and she can still remember the rubber smell of the gas masks that she had to take to school. She was frightened of them, as they looked so sinister so her Grandma said they could just use wet towels in the cellar instead. Government advice then was to use a wet towel if you were caught short. So she was happy that Grandma had sorted it.
I love stories like that, hope to bring some more Oxfam legends soon!
