Zabriske point - death valley
This point is actually at 1000ft elevation but is a famous viewpoint and our first glimpse of the salt flats in the valley bottom.
I like the rock formation and the shapes highlighted by the shadows.
There was a bit of cloud and even a few drops of rain. The temperature was 106 degrees F and increased to 116 degrees F as we dropped to sealevel.
At Furnace creek camp ground we were -190 ft below sea level. As we continued along the valley bottom the max temp was 121 degrees F.
We stayed a little further on at Stovepipe Wells, where there are sand dunes,
at an elevation of 5 feet and the temperature was a modest 117F.
what interested me most was the sight of birds with there beaks open trying to keep cool.
