Menai Bridge

This photo is of the Menai Suspension Bridge, taken from Anglesey looking over the Menai Straits. It links the mainland of Wales to Anglesey.

Designed by Thomas Telford & completed in 1826. It was built to improve the route from London to Holyhead (reducing the crossing time by 9hrs). Before the bridge was built crossing the Straits was done by ferry or by stagecoach across Lavan Sands, which was a very treacherous crossing!
