The smell of heaven
When I was a young child my dad, who had a deep interest in botany, embedded into my mind a love of flora of all types. My great aunts in Enfield, who had a beautiful garden, instilled a love of garden plants and gardening. One of my most enduring memories is walking with my gran from her home in Edmonton to Edmonton Green, via a footpath which ran between allotments. There were 2 particular allotments used by an elderly gent who supplied flowers to the lady who ran the flower stall on 'the Green' on market days. And in spring he grew old fashioned clove pinks. At that time of year the smell pervading the air on approach to those 2 allotments was unmistakeable - heavenly. That memory has made Pinks my favourite of all garden plants. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of success with growing them (although I know those who say they're prolific in their gardens, and I've even sought advice from Pinks specialists to no avail). My favourite of all is Mrs Sinkins, which doesn't do well for me.But there are 2 or 3 which I do manage to grow and this is one of them. So it's inevitable that at some point I would blip a pic of my most favourite flower, here with raindrops on it.
For me the most beautiful of all flowers - the Pink.
