The new ferry
After 37 years in which Dunoon was served by a car-ferry service to the town centre pier, the only car ferries now run to Hunter's Quay to the north of the town. This tiny ferry is one of two passenger-only ships that now link the town to the railhead at Gourock, and fears are growing in Dunoon that the winter weather will prove too much for such small vessels.
On this day, I couldn't help noticing how small the ship looked against the grey sea of a blustery afternoon - and it's still August. I hate to think of what will happen when the weather becomes wilder as Autumn slides into winter.
