World Badminton Championships 2011 Finals
I went to the finals day of the Badminton World Championships held at Wembley Arena London today. As I have played badminton all my life, I have always wanted to see the best in the world play. I wasn't dissapointed. Predictably the Chinese players won everything! - a clean sweep of all 5 titles up for grabs. Less predictably - we did have a British couple (Chris Adcott and Imogen Bankier) in the mixed doubles final but they were easily beaten by the mighty Chinese. Arguably, the greatest player of all time Lin Dan won what was an epic Mens Singles final and the best badminton I will probably ever see.
For some inexplicable reason the tournament decided to ban the spectators from taking pohotographs! Of course as you can see fellow blippers, I was not deterred by this. The stewards were frantically trying to stop thousands of people (mostly Chinese and Malaysian) all armed with cameras from snapping away -pointless!
I have been to many sports events, Wimbledon Tennis, Queens Club Tennis, Brands Hatch Motor Racing, many badminton matches etc and never before have the organisers decided on a no photography policy. I cannot see why they would do this when I am not using a flash and am not taking photos for commercial purposes. They will be getting my letter of complaint shortly!
