Mexican Bird Of Paradise
Living in Southern Arizona in monsoon season brings out all the beauty of the Sonoran Desert. The Mexican Bird of Paradise is one of the most beautiful of all flowering plants. They don't need much water and will bloom all summer and late into fall.
Even when the sun is not shinning, the flowers pick up what little light is available.
During monsoon rains, my yard is filled with new shoots trying to grow up and be a beautiful plant next year. The little Verdin bird loves to climb up between the flowers on the main stem and drink the nectar the flowers give off.
