The Iron Brigade

Here is a marker for the Iron Brigade at the north end of Gettysburg. The Iron Brigade (made primarily of volunteers from WI!) backed up Gen. Buford with Gen. Reynolds' troops (Reynolds died here), and delayed the confederates as they approached the small town in PA (This is during the American Civil War). As I said, it was history week! We got to see the French and Indian War (or Seven Years War) and moved on through to the Civil War. What a great weekend!

I was especially moved to see that these markers are still being adorned with flags and flowers. It's nice to see that people still respect the service of these men (and women).. even if it was nearly 150 years ago.
