Armenian genocide memorial
In 1915 the Turkish ottoman empire tried to eradicate the Armenian people. They succeeded in the death of over 1,5 million men, women and children from a population of 3,000 000. The Armenien people were dispersed throughout the middle eastern countries such as Iran, Iraq and Lebanon.
To this day the Turkish people deny this was a genocide despite independent evidence to support it from nearly every country.
In world war 2 it is believed that Adolf Hitler copied the Armenien genocide in his bid to rid Germany of the Jews and other "inferior" people in his quest to create a Master Race.
He is quoted as saying "who remembers the Armeniens" and forged ahead with what we now know to be the Holocaust.
On April 24th each year the people of Armenia and the diaspora armeniens worldwide, recognise and remember the Genocide. The photo is of the eternal flame which is at the centre of the memorial.
