All back together. Using Bearings from the old(er) bike checked and Fitted using new high temp copper grease, quick cycle around town was a success, noise has gone and not jumping out of gears but not totally smooth running, hopefully everything will be ok riding to work again from Monday
Now to the Internet to source some new replacement bearings

if cycling is your thing i found this nifty app on the i phone www.mapmyride.com it tracks your ride with gps, times it, even shows where the hills are and gives you a time for the ride, i only use mine to commute to work but im guessing a lot of mountain bikers on here would get great use from this so give it a look
