An ordinary life....

House Talk...

And so, the deed is done. We have finally told Alan that we have a new home and in a few months time we will all be moving to live there. How did he take the news? With great excitement and interest! He wanted to see all the photos and hear about the garden, the town, the amenities and most importantly, his room! He is very excited about the fact he will have his own en-suite wet floor shower room!

So, after being very nervous about how he would react, we are delighted that he is so keen! In the end we chickened out of telling him last night as we were all very tired, so sat with him this afternoon instead. After having been given all the information, excitement over, it was back to usual routine and off he went with his dad for a haircut! He?s been neither up nor down since!

Only one worry ? his relaxed attitude is reminding me of the episode of Friends where Monica tells Rachel that she has to move out of their flat as Chandler is moving in and is then hurt when Rachel doesn?t seem that concerned that she has to find a new place. Transpires that Rachel is unconcerned because she doesn?t actually believe that Monica and Chandler living together is actually going to happen. Hope Alan?s not so relaxed because he?s thinking Yeah, whatever. Don?t believe you! LOL!

Anyhoo, all this moving talk has strangely made me think more and more about the home we?re leaving behind and how it took me a long time to settle here (story for another day). Of course I have grown to love it and one of the little silly things that endears it to me is the harling used on the outside walls.

When we added a conservatory 8 years ago, the builder informed us that he couldn?t match the harling completely as what was on the house was Barra shell and it?s no longer commercially produced for the building trade.

I had always been fascinated by the fact that the pebble dash wasn?t made of pebbles but of tiny white shells and it amazed me to learn they were from beaches on the Scottish island of Barra, the southernmost inhabited island of the outer Hebrides, where the shells are up to 10,000 years old and have been bleached their distinctive white/ peach colour by all those years of wind and wave action. I?ll miss them!

Right! Time to get organised. D and me going to friends for dinner tonight. Been a while since we?ve seen them so looking forward to catching up.

Way behind with my commenting but I promise I will catch up. :))

Hope everyone?s having a great weekend. xxx
