Aniko and Mark

The Iona Community began in 1938 began as a project led by George MacLeod, at that time Church of Scotland minister in Govan, Glasgow, to close the gap which he perceived between the Church and working people. He took a group of ministers and working men (the original community was all male) to Iona to rebuild the ruined medieval Iona Abbey together. Today's Community has members all over the world with a strong commitment to ecumenism and to peace and justice issues.

Aniko and Mark, after a lengthy period of preparation, were "hallowed" as members of the Community this month. Aniko comes from the former East Germany, and Mark from Edinburgh. They are special young people who I am proud to call friends.
