A Collector of Oddities

Puff

We went photographing round a graveyard today. We both love graveyards but old ivy covered gravestones lost out to these cute puffballs.

Some kinds of puffball are edible but a small puffball can greatly resemble a developing Amanita virosa -aka Destroying Angel - have a guess as to whether that is good to eat or not! Apparently the way to tell is to slice them in half, a puffball is completely white inside and anything with yellow or purple or with a mushroomy shape inside is bad news.

Stop Press- My husband says these are Lycoperdon pyriforme, I googled this and came up with a webpage that translates this as Wolf Fart puffball. Cool!
