What an incredible boat.

The Swedish Polar Research Secretariat have began their SWEDARCTIC adventures for this year with two planned expeditions. One, Eager 2011 to the East Greenland Ridge and another, NOA Svalbard 2011 checking out the Neoproterozoic orogeny in central Spitsbergen.

The boat is called Oden. 107m of ice crushing steel with an ability to displace 13,000 tonnes of water. Its a class '1A1 Polar Icebreaker' and designed to be an escort icebreaker and operational platform for polar research operations.
