Nipped up to the park, to the flowerbeds which have yielded previous blips - the snapdragonsand the other flowers in the showy beds are still looking stunning, and the wilder bed with the astrantia, lupin, and birch tree (plus these small tortoiseshells), was looking stunning in its overgrown-ness! (that's too many links in one sentence to be decent, sorry)
These purply-blue balls (blip identifiers - get to work), some of them much bigger than a tennis ball, were the stars of the show - the bees loved them too, at least 4 different varieties of bumbles, alongside hoverflies and the odd wasp (not many round here this year, thankfully). Took quite a few pictures and left wishing I'd got some of the Cooncul gairdners at work, really didn't expect my bee/flower shots to turn out very well. In the end, I'm delighted with quite a few! Of the ones I kept, this is the least sharp - but I love the way the flower seems to explode out from under the bee. That was an unintentional effect, I confess.
