The National
Back through to Glasgow last night to see The National, wandered in and immediately spots Shearer69. Had a wee chat and then headed down to see the support act, was nice to meet him again.
Support act were a Baltimore duo Wye Oak. Must admit I was impressed. I had had a listen on youtube before going and was looking forward to them, A bit slicker on record than on stage, but they do try and do a hell of a lot for a two piece; maybe they need a MacBook to handle some of the stuff for them!!! I'll probably buy their album. (Talking of MacBooks, I looked up yesterdays band on the net and the pretentious lead singer has his intrument list ending "..and laptop", I hate them even more now......).
The National came on and just did what they did, a brilliant set, old songs new arrangements all with the Devendorffs and Dessners as tight as a drum with Berninger stalking the stage like a caged beast. Santa Clara and About Today from the Virginia and Cherry Tree EP's were played which made me happy. Not sure how a completely acoustic and not amplified version of Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks went down at the back but up the front it was incredible.
Next up, The Bunnymen..... with an orchestra!!
