Heart

Well, last night I went to a play on the basis of great reviews and I wasn't disappointed one bit. I always find it quite moving seeing young people doing something brilliant, especially when 'the youth' in general seem to get an awful lot of negative press these days. Seeing this bunch of teenagers from the Glasgow theatre company Junction 25 perform something with massive enthusiasm and all-round brio was pretty life-affirming stuff. I guess with children of my own it makes me think of what mine will be doing in the years to come, and also just recognising that the parents of all these kids involved must be as proud as punch with their offspring's endeavours. And if I had to pick a couple of the cast out for special attention, the Reid sisters (Megan and Rosie) are a couple of genuine stars in the making.

Tonight it's a bandtastic night out at The Queens Hall with Eaglowl, Neil from Meursault, Woodpigeon and Withered Hand. Promises to be quite a gig. And at the rate this week is going (and there's still more to come...) I will be staying in for most of the Autumn.

The obvious thing to do now is to link to one of the above acts, but in recognition of the fact that last night I chose the pub rather than the book festival after the play I'll leave you with something from the pen of the man that I missed seeing in the end. It was probably rubbish anyway, ahem.
