Lightning strike

In the dark of the night, well after the midnight hour, a huge storm blew through our area. I woke up to loud crashes and bright flashes and a terrified dog huddled on the floor right outside the bedroom door. As I headed downstairs to check things out, I was stopped in my tracks by a deafening boom and a simultaneous flash of lightning. By that time we were all up, but after a look around didn't show any damage, eventually we went back to bed.

This morning, in the light of day, Bob went down to his office on the lower level and discovered that a lightning strike had demolished the transformer for Gulliver's electronic fence and singed the wall next to the window where the transformer was located. After a little more investigation, we found bits and pieces of the plastic housing of the transformer on the floor clear across the room and a hole in the floor tile. The lightning strike also destroyed everything electrical in the area of Bob's desk, including his telephone, answering machine, new printer, computer, and desk lamp. Tomorrow the insurance adjuster will pay a visit to assess the damage. Despite all that, we didn't lose power to the house and it didn't cause a fire, so we have a lot to be thankful for.

Weather report: After the storm blew through, the temperature dropped about 10-15 degrees along with the humidity. Today has been a beautiful day with puffy clouds, pleasant temperatures and low humidity, and I'm just hoping there are no storms tonight.
