Hedgehog Rescue
Good day for nature. First it was a Sparrowhawk on the garage roof, metres away, then a dramatic rescue late last night. Neighbour at the door, very persistent (I had heard Nancy and Ruffian, the terriers, making a terrible racket in the dark a bit earlier).
They had found a hedgehog, and Ruffian was charging around with it in his mouth. Neighbour got them to drop it and came to find me, so out I went in my PJs and face cream - into the garage for gardening gloves - raking for a torch in the cupboard. Neighbour got a box and I took the hedghog home and watched it for a couple of hours till it got over the shock of the noise and the journey - no blood so probably no puncture marks (don't know about Ruffian yet). Very smelly - spines crackled when it moved and it yawned and stood or lay quietly - it only curled when it was touched and lifted later. I left it in a safe place outside, after midnight, and hoped it would be away safely this morning - it's gone - good news.
