Feathers on Jacob's Ladder
Another walk with mum today. Was a bit murky looking, but we were hoping to see the deer in the morning mist. How poetic! Sadly, it was not meant to be. Thunder began just as we sat down to have a think. This quickly prompted the pair of us to grab hands and walk rather briskly home... I'm frightened by thunder (I know it's childish... but it's scary!) and mum didn't fancy being under tall trees if lightning should strike. Quite sensible really.
Before it began, however, mum pointed out these buzzard feathers. The amount of scrapping we could hear today, I'm not surprised that some of their feathers came loose! Mind you, I wouldn't fancy having one of these yanked out - ouch!
I finished my book today. I've been reading 'Coming Up for Air' by George Orwell. I'm a big fan of his writing and this is one of his lesser known novels. It tells the story of George Bowling, a middle aged man who longs for the pleasant life of his childhood as war (WWII) looms on his doorstep. The story is narrated by the main character, George, and shows his life through his eyes as he grows up, joins the army and comes out the other end of WWI relatively unscathed. However, as WWII approaches, he returns to the place where he lived as a young boy in search of the same idyllic setting he remembers.
Well worth a read, but not the cheeriest of books.
-Jacob's ladder is where we would have ended up if the thunder had not started, I thought the framing made this look like steps!
