Stevia Plant

We've got a Stevia plant.
It's a really interesting plant that has extremely sweet leaves that can be used as a no calorie sugar substitute!
It's just come onto the market here in the UK after what would appear a lot of attempts to stop it, probably from the sugar companies.
Rigorous tests have been carried out over the years with only one having an adverse effect on the rats that were being tested on.
This occurred when the rat was given half its body weight in Stevia!! which would equate to having over 4 stone of the stuff in your body, so no problem there unless you're a nutter.
It's been used as a sweetener for centuries in South America and is now available in powdered form here but is still banned in Europe as a sweetener in food products.
Great little palnt and much better taste than saccharin and the other horrid products that are used as sugar substitutes.
