The morning after
We got off lightly! The worst of hurricane Irene blew through our area in the middle of the night. Some moderate winds and sheets of rain were all she brought, I'm glad to say. We experienced no power outages, and no structural damage.
This morning the rains all but stopped, the winds were moderate (30MPH, gusts to 50MPH) so we ventured out to have a look around. We went to the beach - today's blip. Since the eye of the storm was to our east, the winds, for the most part were coming off shore. Although the tide was out, there was little evidence of prior high surf or disruption of sand dunes.
The steady winds were making a fairly smooth surface of the beach. Irene made landfall further north of us. More flooding and wind damage were reported up there. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those still in the path. What a difference a hundred miles makes!
