2 - 1 ... Crumbs
Sunday ... Football shouldn't be played on a Sunday ... or a Monday, for that matter. Football should be played at 3 o' Clock on a Saturday afternoon.
Anyway, I caught an early train from Kings' Cross with the London branch of the Newcastle United Supporters' Club (founded in 1964 no less). We arrived in Newcastle just after mid-day for Newcastle United V Fulham, a 1 o' clock kick off (Silly o' Clock for a football match).
This is a photo of my young nephew, David. He is a lovely lad with a Geordie accent you would need a phrase book to understand!
It was only his second visit to St. James' Park. His mam had announced that I was taking him to the game on Wednesday. He hadn't slept a wink since. Excited or what!
We took our seats early and had a packed lunch. David was filled with nervous excitement and had lots of questions (Which strip would Newcastle be wearing? Which players would be playing? Was George Osborne following the right economic strategy to get Britain out of recession? When is a forward offside?) I'm glad we don't have a pigeon problem at the football ground as David had crumbs everywhere by the time we had finished.
The game itself was poor. When Leon Best scores 2 goals you know something is up! The atmosphere was poor and there were only 41,000 supporters there today.
Lots of positives though ... Newcastle won and its 3 points and David had a fantastic time. It took us ages to get out of the ground as he insisted on recreating Leon Best's second goal over and over again.
Happy days. Howay The Lads
