Guage or Plumb ?

These fruits are from one of the oldest trees in the garden, not part of our 'new orchard'. We have tried to get them identified but to no avail, they are very tasty but go from not ripe to over ripe very quickly and often rot on the tree! So guage or plumb time is of the essence with them.I have also today felt slightly guilty about going on about our weather/ harvest, and looking at what others have been undergoing in 2011 ( quakes, floods, hurricanes etc) I should count my/our blessing .
