Hurricane Irene
We got off easy this time.
Ready for much worse, we put all the tools and lawn furniture in the barn and stocked up on supplies. They were predicting 75 mph winds, which never materialized.
Mostly it just rained. The basement is flooded and the stream rose up to level with the farm road at the worst point of the day. Now it's still high and rushing along, but things have settled down quite a bit.
Other areas nearby did not fare so well. The Deerfield River is flooding homes and businesses all along its banks, and the Connecticut River is still swelling from the heavy rains north of here.
This is a shot of our side yard in one of many downpours. The rain came in bands, with pauses in between. We could see the clouds rushing by in a swirling curve as the storm rotated, pushing toward us from the East.
