The game of concentration.
There's a childhood game called "Concentration." Some people call it "Memory" or "Pairs" - whatever the name, I can't do it right now. You're supposed to turn a set of cards face down, then flip two over with each turn. The goal is to remember where the matching images are and then turn over matching pairs of cards to gain points.
I used to excel at this game. Now I have trouble staying focused long enough to read more than ten pages in a book. Paying attention to a face-to-face conversation is difficult.
This will pass, I will go back to normal (whatever "normal" is) and my ability to read and to remember things will return, but my sister doesn't have this to look forward to - she's caught on that fine line between life and death and we know there's only one direction for her to go.
I want to read the books she can't read, and have the conversations she can't have - but right now it's impossible to think of anything but her.
