Eleanor Cross, Geddington

The marriage of Edward 1st and Eleanor was a very successful royal marriage. Eleanor bore him about 15 children. He was grief-stricken when she died in 1290 and had crosses erected at all 12 stopping points of the funeral cortege. This Eleanor Cross is the most complete and unaltered of the 3 remaining ones and was erected in 1294.
