Village show

L was up early "prinking" her entries for the village show (one must at all costs avoid nibbled foliage in one's floral arrangements, apparently) and then we all helped transport the delicate items to the village hall. Lots of people were arriving with show class vegetables, handicrafts, etc - these included an impressive lifesize bull made out of papier mache. I particularly liked the display of stoned fruits, with their beautiful bloom and jewel-like colours.

Later on we went down to Jilly's house in Oxford; it was great to see her again after too many years and a real bonus when Jess turned up with two of her little daughters.

Even later we went to a party at Mansfield College - it was a great do, with its style only a little cramped by the weather which was rainy and really quite chilly. Brr. Feels like autumn.
