The Battle for the Elderberries
In the last few days the collared doves and wood-pigeons have been competing for the elderberries. The small birds are less interested in them than in the contents of the feeders. As the berries are eaten, the remaining (and riper) ones are in more precarious positions so we'll often hear a squawk and a flurry of wings as a dove or pigeon loses contact and flaps out of the tree trying to look dignified. This collared dove is obviously not bothered about eating unripe berries in the top of the tree, hope he doesn't have a stomach ache later!
