The Box

The symbol of the British Police for most of the 20th century, now sadly redundant. The light on top of the box used to flash to indicate to the "beat man"(this was the days when women didnt work a beat) that he had a call to attend to.He would then phone from the box to get the details from the station.
Rose street has an unmarked box (still in use) called box 17 which is really just a tiny station with a holding area for a prisoner. The biggest was box 14 (now the district court) which hosted many a secret party and quite a bit of drink was consumed post back shift.
