Narrow Street
This is Stone street Prescot it is the narrowest named street in England at 2'6" at its widest and only 2' at the narrowest it would be almost impossible for many of us to use it to-day, being thinly challenged!
When I first discovered this little gem it was open all the way through, however in recent years a gate has put a stop to its use, perhaps 'Health and Safety' deemed it unsafe?
It runs from the lower shops to the hill and road which was in the past the road/track that the coaches travelled from Liverpool to St Helens.
There's a pub the Victoria which is affectionately known as the 'The Long Pull' where the coaches stopped to change the horses at the half way point.
The origins of Stone street are 17 century and it remains as it was then; its just the shops each side that have changed almost yearly in the present climate.
