Off to new beginnings

Oh beautiful, crumbling Venice...

Leaving Berlin at 6.30am meant for a sleepy start to the day, but who cares, when you get to step off a boat at 9am and head into the crumbling, colourful alleys of la Serenissima.

Spent the whole day walking around and realising how small Venice actually is, we just zigzagged around the different sestieri and were oh so happy not to have brought the kids (managing all the little bridges, tiny alleys and cobbly lanes would have been a bit of a nightmare with a buggy and possibly a grumpy child).

Finished the day with a lovely meal and a stop up on the Rialto bridge, looking down at the grand canal. Much more enjoyable at this time of day when you don't have to fight your way through 20 000 other tourists...
