Splash!

A brave friend jumping into the water at the island of Easdale on the west coast of Scotland. He and a Canadian friend who had already jumped in were determined to swim in the waters of a long-disused slate quarry. There are a few more pools like this on the tiny island.

Easdale island is only about 600m east to west and 400m north to south. Charmingly you can only get to the island by boat - a very short crossing from Seil. Easdale gave its name to Easdale Slate that was quarried there in the mid 1500s. By the 1800s it had become a a sizeable industry. The last commercial quarrying of slate was in 1911. There are beautiful views of Mull and other islands from Easdale island and its easy to see why it is still a fine place to visit.

ps - the other 2 on this trip stayed well out of the water preferring to leave that joy to the 2 who were daft (sorry should read 'brave') enough to jump in.
