Exceptions to the Rules

Had to grade extra credit essay assignments today.
The assignment: violate a norm and write how people reacted to it.
My favorite: the two girls who went to Wal-Mart with crazy hair.
One girl had gel-ed her hair into a 9-inch mohawk and the other had teased hers out into a large afro.
Obviously, they were stared at and followed around the store by employees as well as customers.

Tonight, I have to give a presentation on my findings from last quarter at the tatoo parlor. The class i didn't get into, the Deviance section for graduate students, is doing a tattoos and body modification section and I seem to be the resident expert. So, four extra hours of class. Oh well.
