Something for everyone

Blencathras summit and ridges as seen from Knowe Crags which is the Westernmost point of the summit plateau. The ridges are Gategill Fell with its sheer, scree filled precipitous face. Behind Gategill is Halls Fell Ridge, not so easy to see in this photo and certainly not at small size but if you follow the summit down to the right then Hall Fell is the rocky one you might pick out. Behind that is Scales Fell, a million ton behemoth that stands guard to Blencathras Eastern approach. Inbetween Halls Fell and Scales sits Doddick Fell. Doddick and Scales fell share the high ground that sits to the South of Scales Tarn on the final summit approach, but where Scales is a gentle downramp, Doddick loses height much more quickly which explains its absence from this image.

In the far distance are the Pennines, picked out in occasional spotlight of sunshine.

Snaking through the mid shot is the much loved A66. It may be to the disdain many, but notice how either side of its metalled surface, green farmland and cultivated fields have sprung forth from the prosperity it brings to the region. Like the waters of the Nile its reach cannot penetrate far though and sure enough we can see where the wealth of green has to inevitably yield to Mother Natures hand and the ugly brown marshy fell stands firm.

Also seen approx one third from the RHS and about two thirds up the frame are Great and Little Mell Fells.
