Last minute summer homework

This is Emma's summer homework - to learn about the Solar System and create a painting or a model of it. Well we've done both here. She had a little bit of help here and there with the sharp knife and hot glue gun (aren't they fab). The idea is that you can see the planets lined up to the sun (def not to scale btw) and through the 'telescope's' eyepiece, you should be able to see all the planets and the sun at the end.

More or less works OK - I'm sure the planets could have been tidier, but that's newspaper for you. The unintentional beauty of it is, that when it's laid on it's side, the bigger planets naturally make it swing towards the viewer, making Saturn's rings nice and horizontal. (This pic is from above, so effect not so obvious).

Just 3 days left until school starts for everybody here. Hope you all have a good, sunny weekend.
