Cabo Carvoeira

In the early morning at Cabo Carvoeira, a few miles to the south, I saw Cory?s and Balearic shearwaters and gannets flying past, but unsurprisingly not the hoped-for Madeiran petrels. They nest on the Berlenga islands visible offshore but I guessed they?d be far out in the Atlantic by now. Still, it was worth a try. Sitting on this rock island are some shags phalacrocorax aristotelis and yellow-legged gulls larus michahellis.
